Derrick’s lifelong passion for conservation began in Zimbabwe, where he grew up with a deep appreciation for Africa’s natural beauty and wildlife. He considers ‘the bush’ his happy place, where his love for nature and commitment to its preservation were shaped.
With over a decade of early experience in marketing and sales, Derrick transitioned to international development, focusing on private sector development work with impact across Africa and Asia working in countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Nepal. In the UK, he has held senior executive roles as CEO, COO, and Director promoting international trade and investment and supporting companies exploring commercial opportunities internationally.
Derrick brings a wealth of experience in stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and strategic oversight. His understanding of local African communities and other governance experience—through board roles with Scouts UK on the Race Equity Project and Bromley District Executive Committee Trustees Board, and as a school governor—will support Helping Rhinos’ mission to sustain rhino populations by fostering community-driven conservation efforts. Derrick is excited to contribute his expertise to support Helping Rhinos’ vital work in securing a future for these iconic species in their natural habitat.
