Dr Marc Abraham OBE, or ‘Marc the Vet’ as he’s usually known, has always loved all animals and nature, being obsessed by butterflies, birds, and frogspawn from a very young age. Years after qualifying from Edinburgh University, and when treating some badly bred pups one emergency nightshift in Brighton, Marc decided to campaign against cruel, unscrupulous dog breeding and selling practices, such as puppy farming. He led the successful ‘Lucy’s Law’ campaign in Westminster to ban commercially bred puppies and kittens from third-party dealers, e.g. pet shops; therefore making all UK dog and cat breeders accountable for the first time.
Marc is also the secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG) in Westminster, and was responsible for sourcing rescue pup Dylan for Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 10 Downing Street. He regularly appears in the media giving vet and animal welfare advice, including being a regular on BBC Sussex Radio, and visits local primary schools chatting with pupils of all ages about caring for animals, staying safe around dogs, looking out for one another, as well as protecting children’s mental health.
Marc has written four books ‘Vet on Call’, ‘Pets in Need’, ‘Lucy’s Law: The story of a little dog who changed the world’, and ‘#BeMoreMosquito: How You Can Campaign & Create Change’, with his fifth publication, an anti-bullying children’s picture book called ‘Leon’s Reef’ due out in May 2026. Marc has also just released movie documentary ‘Dogspiracy’ looking at irresponsible dog breeding and selling in the US including puppies in pet stores, as well as promoting rescue dog adoption.
Marc works as a practicing vet at The Mewes Vets in Rottingdean, near Brighton, is a keen supporter of Brighton & Hove Albion, and enjoys walks on the South Downs. In 2022, Marc was awarded the OBE for Services to Animal Welfare by His Royal Highness King Charles III.
